One of the goals of visionPDX was to explore new and creative means to reach people. One way the project accomplished this was through video. From the community outreach phase to the data analysis process, visionPDX worked with both volunteers and partner organizations to use this medium to share its work.
Project staff and volunteers worked with Portland Community Media to create a short video that shows some of the things we heard from the community in our outreach. The videos capture some diverse opinions while representing the overall values heard from the public.
The quotes are read by visionPDX volunteers, who spent countless hours reading through over 21,000 pages of comments, finding the common themes, and pointing out areas of disagreement.
From this work has come the final community vision, which was accepted by Portland City Council on September 19, 2007.
This short film highlights six of the 29 visionPDX grants projects in 2006. Over 140 groups applied for visionPDX outreach grants, which were given to 29 community groups to conduct outreach to their constituencies.
The grants allowed us to reach more people than we would have been able to on our own, as well as reaching people who likely would not otherwise have taken part in a public process like this.

Committee volunteers on the Communications Subcommittee worked with their
creative friends and allies to create a public service announcement for
the project in 2006.
visionPDX volunteers worked with the Portland International School and
others to bring together children to talk about what they want for Portland's
future. See what they said in this short "commercial" for the project.
